BSCAI Annual Convention Provides Affineco Leadership and Operational Improvements

The Affineco Companies are continually looking for ways to improve services and foster a positive environment for their employees. Last month Premier Maintenance President Michael Diamond and United Services President Paul Senecal attended the Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI) Annual Convention in Las Vegas to stay up to date on industry changes and brush up on best practices for running a successful service business.

“It’s always important for us to meet with our industry peers and learn what they’re doing. The BSCAI convention is one of the major industry events of the year and we always come home invigorated and full of new ideas,” said Diamond.

Among the take-aways from this year’s convention: how to make sure your employees are a good fit for your organization and winning ideas around important themes like revenue growth, sustainability, and operational excellence.

The Disney Institute presented a program called “Disney’s Approach to People Management,” which focused on making sure your workers are in synch with your company’s cultural identity. According to the Disney Institute, “When you train, develop, and retain highly-skilled employees who understand and convey the truths and values of your business, you’ll realize positive economic effects.”

Tom Peters, a world-renowned speaker and author on helping companies achieve excellence, delivered the keynote address. According to Diamond, the talk was inspirational and provided concrete action steps the Affineco Companies can adopt to further improve operations and profitability.

“I was most struck by Peters’ point that we shouldn’t measure the things that go wrong in the company—we should, instead, measure what goes right.”

Diamond says he has already instituted a program that rewards employees who meet their weekly financial goals but admits there is room to expand that kind of initiative across the companies.

BSCAI’s Annual Convention draws over 15,000 attendees and vendors with the goal of defining the standard of professionalism for facility service providers. Affineco believes the organization is achieving those goals and helping them consistently reach higher and perform better.
