Cruz Roldan has only been an AffinEco employee for a few months, but he’s already a welcome addition to the company. His strong work ethic, flexibility and willingness to take on any task has thrilled clients and made his supervisor, Rafael Glicia, very happy.
“Cruz does everything well,” said Glicia, adding that he’s grateful for Roldan’s help. “If I have a question, he always has an answer. He enjoys helping people and never says no.” In Roldan’s first two months on the job, Glicia received five emails praising Roldan’s work.
Barbara Bozzi, assistant property manager at Uncas on Thames, where Roldan was previously assigned, can’t say enough about his performance. “Everything we asked of him was done perfectly and professionally; he always went above and beyond the call of duty. Cruz is an extraordinarily hard worker and it was a pleasure working with him.”
Roldan was hired to go wherever he is needed, as opposed to being assigned to one specific location. He covers all manner of maintenance and cleaning, from painting to tile work to carpet removal, and has worked in Norwich and Hartford. He likes figuring out how best to get the job done and enjoys meeting different people as he moves from project to project. The variety of tasks gives him opportunities to grow, he says.
He especially appreciates the confidence the company has in him, giving him the latitude to assess what needs fixing and then to assemble the materials he needs to fix it. “They trust me to get what I need to do the job, and that gives me the confidence to do it on my own,” he said.
Roldan had spent 11 years working at Zanes Cycles, a high-end bike shop where he assembled and maintained bicycles, when he was laid off. His wife, Dina, noticed AffinEco employees working in the businesses she frequents as a visiting nurse. She liked what she saw and thought it would be a perfect fit for Roldan, who also had cleaning experience from his time living in Mexico. “He’s very good with his hands,” she said.
Dina called AffinEco to inquire about a job for her husband, but was told there were no openings. But she’s a good marketer: she talked them into meeting Roldan, and once they did, they saw someone worth bringing into the fold.
When Roldan isn’t putting his heart and soul into his work, he’s spending time with his family. He goes for bike rides with his 10-year-old son Joshua, and takes walks with Dina, whom he married in March after seven years together. He also has a 22-year-old stepdaughter.
Roldan is honored to have his work recognized so soon after joining AffinEco, saying he hopes to be with them for many years to come. “When a company recognizes an employee’s hard work, it makes them want to do an even better job.”
