On July 18, Mario Tarantino stepped into his role as Chief Administrative Officer for Affineco. With 35 years of property management and cleaning and maintenance experience, plus an extensive history working with BOMA, Tarantino brings a wealth of invaluable skills and knowledge that will no doubt serve Affineco well.
Affineco has experienced significant growth in recent years across all divisions, and with such progress comes new challenges. United Services President Paul Senecal and Premier Maintenance President Michael Diamond recognized a need to regulate overall administrative issues, so they created the position of Chief Administrative Officer to address that need. Tarantino has known both Senecal and Diamond for years. He and Senecal worked together many years ago, and Tarantino got to know Diamond through BOMA. When Senecal and Diamond created the new position, they approached Tarantino because they believed his background and experience would be a good fit.
“It was important to us to pick someone who had both great skills and a solid reputation in our market. Mario, who is also a great friend, has both of those and was already very familiar with the culture of our companies, so he was able to hit the ground running,” said Senecal. “The great news is we were awarded the first contract he worked on in his first week, over a half-million dollars in new business.”
So far, Tarantino says he’s been very busy but is enjoying getting up to speed on the company’s operations and getting to know the Affineco team.
“This is a great company that has seen a lot of growth,” said Tarantino. “I find that the staff here are all talented people. I look forward to being able to help in adjusting to the tremendous growth administratively.”
A big part of Tarantino’s role is standardizing policy across the company. Working out of the Stamford office, he handles overall general administration predominantly at United, but also with Premier. His responsibilities include addressing compliance issues, smoothing the flow of paperwork and keeping communication channels open. He is involved with the administration of proposals—coordinating all relevant information to ensure the most complete, professional and competitive bids—as well as with IT, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Before joining Affineco, Tarantino was General Manager at Normandy Real Estate Partners of Morristown, New Jersey. He was responsible for the daily operations of 16 separate buildings in Westchester County, New York City and Fairfield County, Connecticut, comprising a total of 1.6 million square feet of commercial office space. Tarantino coordinated budgeting and financial reporting, bidding out vendor services, directing the management staff and supporting the leasing team. He also managed daily services to tenants, construction and tenant improvement projects, and cleaning, engineering and maintenance contracts. Other previous jobs include Assistant Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at Grubb & Ellis in Stamford, Senior Vice President at Initial Contract Services in New York City and Vice President/Branch Manager at National Cleaning (now ABM) in Stamford.
Tarantino currently serves as President of BOMA Westchester County. He has been very active with different BOMA chapters since 1983, serving on various Boards of Directors and committees. In fact, Tarantino was a founding member of BOMA Southern Connecticut. His nearly three decades of involvement with the organization has afforded him valuable networking opportunities and allowed him to tap into educational opportunities to stay on the cutting edge of technology.
“My experience with BOMA has given me valuable knowledge in best practices and through my extensive involvement, resulted in great relationships.” Tarantino said.
Mario lives in Stamford and, in his off time, is an avid long-distance sport-touring motorcyclist.
